Gwynedd Visitor Levy

Cyngor Gwynedd is consulting on the possibility of introducing a Visitor Levy in the county. We want your views as residents, businesses, visitors or stakeholders to be considered in our discussions.

What is the Visitor Levy?

The Levy would be a daily charge paid by people staying overnight in visitor accommodation, such as hotels, holiday cottages, bed and breakfasts, and campsites.

Its aim is to support communities, culture and the Welsh language, businesses, facilities and the local environment by reinvesting the income back into the area.

Levy rates

  • Tent campsites and shared accommodation (hostels and dormitories): £0.75 per person per night (£0.90 including VAT)
  • All other types of holiday accommodation (caravans, motorhomes, self-catering accommodation, hotels, B&Bs, etc): £1.30 per person per night (£1.56 including VAT)

Exemptions

You will not pay the Levy if you:

  • are under 18 staying in a tent or shared accommodation (such as hostels or dormitories)
  • stay more than 31 nights in a single booking
  • are staying in emergency or temporary housing arranged by the local authority

Cyngor Gwynedd has not yet made a decision regarding introducing a levy locally, but a Gwynedd Visitor Levy Proposal has been prepared to set out how a levy could be implemented locally.
